How to Write a SaaS Blog Post that Converts?

Top-performing B2B SaaS websites publish an average of 11 blog posts per month. Why? Because SaaS blog posts attract their ideal customer profiles, generate leads, and increase revenue.

For example, we wrote an article for Zencal, ranking second and driving 1300+ visitors looking to purchase a meeting scheduler software.

B2B SaaS Blog Post Ranking Second on Google

We then wrote another post targeting people looking for a Doodle alternative. Now, the article ranks second and drives 500+ quality traffic.

What is a SaaS Blog Post?

A SaaS blog post is content that addresses a topic related to a SaaS product and the industry around it. It educates potential customers about the product’s benefits, provides product usage tips, and sometimes discusses industry trends.

Its main purpose is to guide them toward exploring or purchasing the product. A good example of a SaaS article comes from Wrike, which wrote a blog on how to write a project plan.

What is a SaaS Blog Post

Whenever it made sense, they introduced their SaaS as the best solution to the reader’s pain.

Moreover, they added call-to-action buttons to encourage readers to take action.

This example shows the importance of SaaS articles. They can drive traffic and leads when you create a good content strategy.

Now, how do you write a SaaS blog post?

How to Write a SaaS Blog Post in 8 Steps?

You need to have a strategy to create engaging content. Otherwise, you cannot convert readers to buyers.

Use these seven steps to write an excellent SaaS blog post:

  1. Choose a proven topic
  2. Use the right SaaS blog post format
  3. Craft a detailed outline
  4. Write a compelling introduction
  5. Add a key takeaway section
  6. Write original and helpful content
  7. Write a conclusion that drives action
  8. Use proven on-page SEO techniques

Let’s take a closer look at them.

1. Choose a Proven Topic

Choosing a proven topic is the first step to writing a SaaS blog post that drives traffic and sales. So, select articles that people search for with high business potential.

Clients often tell us, “I want to increase our website traffic fast. Can you find such topics?”

Our answer is always the same: “Traffic quality counts more than quantity. Having 1,000 high-quality traffic is always better than 100,000 people not interested in your product.”

Therefore, the most important thing is business potential. It’s always better than traffic.

Let’s take an example.

You sell a SaaS product that allows users to create booking pages, like Clockwise or Reclaim AI. Thanks to keyword research, you find the following topic ideas:

Topic Ideas Best Calendly alternatives Best AI tools
Search Volume 2,900 22,000
Traffic Potential 2,900 15,000

As the table above shows, you will get 12,100 more traffic if you write an article on the “Best AI tools.” However, the real question is: Are these people interested in your product?

The visitors you get from the “Best Calendly alternatives” topic are interested in your product. They are more likely to convert immediately. Therefore, this topic has a higher business potential.

Key Takeaway: Choose topics that target people in the buying stage; they are looking for a solution like your product (BOFU and MOFU). Then, you can slowly target broad keywords that still match your niche.

2. Use the Right SaaS Blog Post Format

Now that you have a topic, the next step is to choose a format.

A SaaS blog post format shows information in the way readers expect it. They know an article about the best prospecting tools will list and explain them. In the same way, a post about how to write a cold email will be a guide.

Each format matches a different search intent (why someone is searching).

An ultimate guide, for instance, is a comprehensive article that provides extensive and step-by-step instructions or advice on a specific topic. It’s also called a “How-To Article.”

It focuses on

  • Teaching the reader how to do something specific (How to improve customer retention) or
  • Helping the reader understand a particular subject thoroughly (What is customer experience).

For example, Reclaim Ai wrote an article explaining how to build a habit. In this guide, they listed 18 steps to achieve the best result possible.

There are more blog post formats, like listicles, reviews, comparisons, and alternatives. A listicle, for instance, is an article structured as a list. You list and explain tools, tips, examples, or reasons.

Each point or list item often includes a brief explanation, example, or supporting details. Here, you help the reader understand why you recommend the point.

For instance, you could have articles like:

  • 10 best email marketing tools.
  • 7 reasons to start an email marketing campaign

Let’s look at an example.

ClickUp wrote a listicle article that listed fifteen HR tools. For each tool, they added an image and wrote a short product description.

They also listed features, pros, cons, and pricing plans to provide more value.

Write a saas blog post

In product listicle posts, writers are supposed to share their firsthand experiences after testing the product in real-world scenarios. It’s a piece of advice from Google that says;

“Does content also demonstrate that it was produced with some degree of experience, such as with actual use of a product?”

EAT guideline from Google

For example, they must create a Calendly account and manage appointments before covering it in a list of meeting scheduling software.

To illustrate, Famewall wrote an article where they tested five remote video recording tools. To prove their first-hand experience, they shared annotated screenshots you can only get after using the tool.

Unfortunately, not many writers test tools for various reasons. As a result, their content lacks creativity and is boring to read.

3. Craft a Detailed Outline

Let’s continue our discussion on how to write a SaaS blog post.

An outline helps you structure your SaaS blog post. It lists the main points and supporting points to cover in your article.

SaaS blog post outline

How do you craft a good outline?

You break the outline into sections or headings called H2, H3, H4, H5, and H6 (H means Heading and the numbers show their importance).

H2s are the most important headings in your articles. If you want to explain an H2 in more detail, you can break it down into H3s.

For example, you might have an H2 section like “4 Benefits of Customer Service.” Instead of writing one long paragraph with all the benefits, put each benefit in an H3 subheading.

Before:

After

Good saas blog post content

As you see in the second image above, H2 is the most important. Then, the H3s support the H2 by explaining it further. If I want to elaborate on an H3, I will create an H4.

How to write a saas blog post outline

Now, let’s write a short outline for ‘What is Customer Service?’

  • Intro
  • What is Customer Service?
  • Key Elements of Effective Customer Service
    • Active listening and empathy
    • Clear communication
    • Problem-solving and adaptability
  • Types of Customer Service
    • In-person customer service
    • Phone and email support
    • Live chat and social media support
    • Self-service options (FAQs, knowledge bases)
  • Benefits of Customer Service
    • Builds customer loyalty and trust
    • Increases customer retention and satisfaction
    • Improves business reputation and competitive edge
  • Customer Service vs Customer Support: What’s the Difference?
  • Conclusion

Creating a detailed outline keeps the reader interested and focused throughout the article. You cover the most essential points that will make your content unique.

4. Write a Compelling Introduction

Now that your outline is ready, let’s start writing your SaaS blog post.

Every good article starts with a catchy, simple, and clear introduction. It should immediately draw the reader in and have a statement that highlights the point you are trying to address.

An excellent introduction should be less than 150 words. Go beyond that, and you’ll lose your readers. It shouldn’t be similar to this (long and AI-generated without value):

Bad saas blog post introduction

You see, 73% of people skim blog posts, while 27% read them thoroughly. People don’t have time to read your long experience as a SaaS founder; they just want to get right into the main topic.

Statistics about people who skim content

Your introduction will make people decide to read or skim your content. At Rank Lyx, we follow five key points when writing introductions:

  • Grab attention with the first sentence (stats, numbers, data, research, quote, case study, short story, etc.)
  • Get straight to the point
  • Make it clean and short
  • Use short paragraphs and
  • Set expectations.

For example, I recently wrote an article explaining whether blog writing services are good. I started the introduction with unique data: Companies that regularly publish blog posts get 67% more leads per month than those that don’t.

Add Stats to Your Blog Post Introduction

Then, I also went straight to the point, kept it clean and short, and set expectations.

How to write a saas blog post introduction

I didn’t waste the reader’s time and wanted to provide a solution to the problem they were trying to solve. We use the same principles in every introduction we write for our clients.

Introduction written by Rank Lyx for Famewall

Now, let’s write an introduction for our blog post, ‘What is Customer Service?

“A whopping 95% of consumers say customer service is a big factor in staying loyal to a brand. In fact, a single bad experience can drive a third (⅓) of customers away, even from brands they love.

Chances are you have a lot of competition in 2025. Customers don’t have time to beg you to please them; if you don’t care for them, someone else will. As such, you must provide unique customer service to retain your consumers.

But what exactly is excellent customer service? Should your business provide it through email, phone, knowledge base, or in person?

Let’s find the answers to these questions and more!”

If you can write such an exciting introduction, readers will be eager to continue reading. Remember that you have to make it catchy, engaging, and brief.

5. Add a Key Takeaways Section

Let me share one unique tip before writing the main blog content.

Follow your introduction with a “Key Takeaways” section. It highlights the key points you want the reader to remember after reading your article. So, instead of reading the whole article to find an answer to an important question, they can find it immediately in the “Key takeaways.”

And if they are satisfied, they can continue to read the article or close the page.

Add key takeaways to your blog posts

Now you might think, “Do you mean readers can just leave after finding their answer? My goal is to keep them engaged and promote my SaaS product, not drive them away. Why would I risk that?”

Yes, some readers might leave, but the majority will stay. Moreover, it’s impossible to fully understand a topic by reading its definition alone.

Why do I say that?

The screenshot below shows the definition of SaaS content writing. It says, “SaaS content writing is about creating written content for companies selling SaaS (Software as a Service) products.”

How to write saas blog posts

Do you fully understand SaaS content writing from this definition alone? It’s very unlikely. So you will certainly want to read more to understand it better, which shows that most of your readers will stay.

Moreover, people leaving because they are satisfied is a good signal to Google. It proves your article is helpful, and Google likes that.

Another reason to use “key takeaways” is that times have changed. Thanks to social media platforms and AI search tools like ChatGPT, people don’t want to read 3,000 words before finding their answer.

They want a solution to their problem immediately. If they can’t find it, they will click back and check the following article.

For instance, this Asana article was one of the proposed ones when I googled “how to choose a project management tool.”

How to write a saas article

But I had to skip three sections (987 words) to learn how to choose a PM tool.

Provide key information quickly in your saas blog posts

This is not the best user experience, and many users will click back and go to ChatGPT or Gemini. Therefore, provide the answer immediately to retain your audience.

Finally, a “Key Takeaway” section is perfect for mentioning your product and increasing brand awareness. Readers will see it whether they read the full article or not.

And that’s what I did in my SaaS content writing article, where I mentioned Rank Lyx as one of the best services.

How to write a good saas blog post

So, let’s write a key takeaway section for our article “What is customer service.”

Key Takeaways:

  • Customer service is the support and assistance customers receive throughout their experience with a product or service.
  • Positive customer service is essential for customer retention and brand loyalty.
  • Effective customer service creates stronger connections with customers and enhances brand reputation.

6. Write Unique, Helpful Content

When writing the body of a SaaS blog post, focus on making the content helpful for the reader.

Helpful content addresses the needs, questions, or problems of your audience. Every sentence must provide unique value, with no space for fluff or beating around the bush. Plus, be clear and concise, and avoid unnecessary jargon that could confuse the reader.

Here are some elements that will make your body text unforgettable:

  • Bullet points,
  • Statistics
  • Screenshots and Images (including custom images like graphs)
  • Videos
  • Case studies
  • Stories (imaginary and real)
  • Quotes
  • And more.

I used these tips and elements when I wrote a post about customer service automation. (We made this sample post to show potential customers our skills).

How to write b2b saas blog posts

I shared relevant statistics speaking to companies looking to improve customer service.

  • 73% of buyers expect websites to feature chatbots for convenient interactions.
  • In 2022, 88% of users had at least one conversation with a chatbot.
Provide value by sharing unique data

Adding real examples, like case studies, adds more value to the content. In the same post, I added examples of companies automating customer support.

Share case studies in your b2b saas content

I even added testimonial videos to increase trust.

Add testimonial to your content

Videos make the content more enjoyable. As such, I added product-focused videos to increase conversions.

Add product videos to your saas blog post

One blog post, 2,500 words of pure joy and engagement.

Now, let us write a section of the body for the blog post ‘What is Customer Service?’

I will provide two images:

  1. One with basic writing (the bad) and
  2. One with advanced SaaS writing (the good).

We will compare both sections and identify what makes them different.

Bad SaaS blog post example:

Example of bad blog post content

The example above has many problems:

  1. A huge paragraph that makes the text difficult to read,
  2. A tone that makes it difficult to understand,
  3. Every sentence is repetitive and doesn’t provide unique value,
  4. No example that helps me understand customer service better,
  5. No experience and expertise.

Overall, it’s low-quality and boring to read. Let’s fix that.

7. Write a Conclusion that Drives Action

Imagine watching a 1-hour action movie where the first 30 minutes are actions, and the last are all conversations. What will you remember?

You might call it the worst movie you’ve ever watched.

However, if the first 30 minutes are conversations and the last are fights, you might call it one of the best movies.

The takeaway: people tend to remember the end easily.

Conclude your SaaS blog post by encouraging the reader to act. You need to tell them what to do next. As a SaaS company, you want them to:

  • Start a free trial,
  • Purchase your SaaS tool,
  • Subscribe to a newsletter, or
  • Download a freebie.

Grammarly is a good example to follow. In their article on transition words, they conclude by inviting readers to let Grammarly recommend the best words.

8. Use Proven On-Page SEO Techniques

Now that you have written and edited your article, optimize it to increase your chances of ranking on Google.

You optimize your article by using proven On-page SEO that will make Google fall in love with it.

Here are some proven tips to use:

  • Keyword density: Use your keyword often in your article, but don’t overdo it.
  • Use your main keyword in your SaaS blog post title (H1).
  • Use your main keyword in your headings (H2, H3, etc).
  • Add internal links; these are links from the current post you are writing to the existing ones on your site.
  • Optimize your images by writing good alt texts and file names.
  • Write your keyword in the meta description.
  • Use a short and descriptive URL; avoid adding dates and numbers.

We can see an example from QuickBooks in this SaaS blog post. They used the main keyword, accounting, in the post title.

It also appears in important H2 headings like “Accounting definition” and “Why is accounting important?”

SEO optimize your saas blog posts

The article also has links to other blog posts on the website.

Last but not least, the main keyword (accounting) appears 90 times in the article.

Use good keyword density

Combine these tips with advanced ones, like using LSI keywords, and Google will love you.
